The wreck happened shortly after 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, in Schenectady, near the intersection of Route 7 and Albany Street.

Schenectady Police said multiple people called 911 saying a male was lying in the roadway and not moving.

When officers arrived, they found the boy unconscious. He was taken to Albany Medical Center, where his condition has not been made public.

The boy’s age and hometown were not immediately known.

A preliminary investigation found that the victim was crossing in a marked crosswalk when he was struck. The driver then fled the scene, police said.

On Tuesday, Dec. 19, investigators said they arrested 29-year-old Peter Greisler, of Rotterdam, in connection with the crash.

Greisler is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury and failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in the crosswalk.

The collision happened just yards from the Bright Beginnings Child Care Center.
